NoiaCast Vol.03 S.P.Y @ [updated]
Carlos Lima (SPY) is more of a Brazilian djs with great emphasis on the international scene. They already have some songs released on major labels as British Soul: r , Metalheadz and CIA Soon released his first EP on Innerground Records, with support and partnership of DJ Marky. We chatted with the DJ who lives in London for nearly 6 years.

1.Lembro have talked with you at Cargo London in 2004, when we did live show at the time you worked during the day, had played a few parties in the Rec Hospital and had a monthly drum'n'bass project with DJ Tissa ... right?

Yes I remember that time I was still playing alone and the project was weekly ... After 6 months the Tissa came to spend a month in London on vacation, decided to stay and join forces to further promote the party ... Some time later we received the invitation to play at launch the album "Weapons of mass creation 2" of Hospital Records .

That was his goal when he decided to live in England?

No, my goal was just to stay in England one year, learn English, take some courses in graphic design and return to Brazil

Clearly in the last three years you dedicated to the production as anyone. Now you have many releases being released by some of the finest British stamps. First the Metalheadz, from last year released music by Soul: R, Hospital and Advanced. What next?

Yes ... I've been focusing all my free time to production, since January 2008 have been working in the studio a minimum 5 days per week and 5-8 hours straight ... and all this after my job Graphic designer by day. which is quite tiring at times ... The releases that are coming now are:

EP
My First EP by Soul: r (ASBO - EP) with the bands
ASBO, MOVING IN CIRCLES, Slum DUB and REBIRTH

An EP by Innerground (GIVE ME YOUR LOVE - EP)
In collaboration with Marky and with a range in collaboration with the Random Movement.

SINGLES
Spearhead, V records, Advanced, 31 records, CIA, Innerground, Critical, Cylon and a single in collab with Marky for Digital Soundboy .

REMIXES

Total Science - Nosher (Marky & SPY Remix)
Jakes - Swerve - (Marky & SPY Remix)
Total Science - Soul Patrol - Jungle VIP (Marky & SPY Remix)

Random Movement - Can not Resist (SPY Remix)
BCEE - Generations (SPY Remix)
Kox - Its OK (SPY Remix)

And some more releases in collab with Danny (CABLE) called Damage Inc. with our first single on Advanced Records

I know you use Ableton in production and that even goes for some other djs teaching. What is your production setup?

My production setup and simple
Ableton Live 8
1 - Macbook pro 2.0
1 - pair of Tannoy Active Monitors
1 - sound card Yamaha Audiogram 3
1 - microKORG
1 - Midi Controller - Ozonic
and a sub cheapie

Produce or play?

The two.

How is / was Marky and partnerships with Mosus (V Recordings)?

It's been pretty cool, I make the Mosus since 2006 and we learned a lot together, we are now working on other collabs but soon we will do more tracks together.

The Collab with Marky has been very nice too ... he has the facility to work and edit samples and amazing and now he is working with Ableton Live also what helps. Now I'm working on new collabs with: Marky - CABLE - RANDOM MOVEMENT - BCEE - TOTAL SCIENCE - NYMFO - INVADERS AND SubTerra

I think working with other producers is the best way for you to learn new techniques and tricks. I've been learning a lot from it too ...

What do you know about the current drum'n'bass scene in Brazil?

To be honest I do not know much of what goes on there. I know that the scene has changed a lot since I moved to London, and that there are people working hard to keep the scene alive, which I think is pretty cool.

Numerous shops (Vinyl Stories) are closing in Europe due to the large demand for online shopping. With the experience gained there, you can just live with the production and sale of music in mp3?

Yes, many stores closing, the sale of vinyl is not as good, but online sales is ending stores CDs and DVDs as well which is very sad but the reality ... The comment here is that the CD before the end Vinyl ...

The sale of mp3 is presently very high ... I think for the sale of live mp3 from the time you work your name or the name of your label as well ...

What influenced you to choose the drum'n'bass? The London life, a dj, party, style or a specific song?

I always liked the more underground side of dance music has always enjoyed very altern8, enjoy, dj sedution etc etc .... but what changed everything was when I heard on the radio there in Brazil, I think the dj was playing Julian PRODIGY - Music Reach 1234, Out Of Space ... were the two tracks that kind of changed everything. to the time it was very futuristic sounding ... well ... very fast. it was love at first listen :-P
