Learn all about the quiet side of drum'n'bass in Rewind Special

1990. It's in England created a style of music that would generate controversy over the future of dance music in the world. The Breakbeat Hardcore. heavily influenced by American Rap, Acid House and pounding at 45 rpm (revolutions per minute), were the heads of the young bubbly then rave that took tens of thousands of people to places open to end up dancing to 'sound the new millennium ". Many of Drum & Bass artists we know today were the beginning of their careers at that time. This was subdivided into two Hardcore, Happy Hardcore and (style more playful, with samples of ethereal vocals and positive messages) and Dark Hardcore (with heavier sounds and macabre, showing the degradation and problems of everyday life).

That same year an Englishman named Daniel Williamson, now known as LTJ Bukem, produced a track that was very successful and is considered one of the most influential songs of the era: entitled 'Logical Progression', the band followed the road 'happy' in Happy Hardcore being launched by VMR Recordings. Even at 90, another song was produced by weight Bukem: Demons' Theme. The DJ has a good time playing his new track dubplate (test disc), that although he was aggressive, had a party that brought calm and beautiful melodies. The single was released on July 91, now the label's own Bukem, Good Looking Records.

In year 93, another major release of LTJ Bukem made a huge fuss in the movement, now known as Jungle, 'Music' was the name of the band. From that year began to emerge other labels with main emphasis on style that began to be called Ambient and Intelligent Jungle, such as Dee Jay Recordings, R & S, Rugged Vinyl and Bear Necessities, bringing works by artists such as PFM, DJ Crystl, appall Jack 'n' Phil, Just Intelligence, Photek, Alex Reece and others. In time, many criticized this style of Jungle, which was viewed as the opposite of the heavy sound of the time, Jump-up headed by the then leader of the scene Jungle Records, Suburban Base Records and its casting weight that had artists such as DJ Hype, Danny Breakz and Krome & Time. In addition, the Ambient Jungle was considered very quiet to run on a dance floor, people were not used and not with their minds open to this kind of music. Some other artists of the scene tried to give strong support to the Atmospheric style, like the DJ Stage One with a series of compilations 'Jungle Tekno,' which was released by the label Jumpin '& Pumpin' and had, in most cases, more experimental tracks.

In 1994 the same LTJ Bukem launch two more tracks. One of them was 19.5 Hz 'that made the producer side of Peshay and' Horizons', which was the first launch of the newly created subselo Looking Good, the Good Looking, and still coincided with the opening night of the legendary Drum & Bass Bukem, the 'Speed' at Mars Bar in London. There was born the concept of what is known today as Atmosferic Drum & Bass. Speed The party was the main means of dissemination of the style in England at that time, breaking down barriers with the help of Fabio and LTJ Bukem, and which 'Good Looking Records' has become synonymous.

The Atmosferic drum'n'bass today

Eight years later the style evolves, having overthrown the whole concept of 'music to listen and not to dance.' Other labels and artists have emerged, each with its peculiarities. The main label is still Looking Good, which is followed by others as Covert Operations, Inperspective Records Nu Directions and Warm Communications.

The influences.

The producers of this type of Drum & Bass had their contacts with music from an early age, having been heavily influenced by Jazz, Soul, Rare Groove and Funk 70's and 80's. Hancok Herbie, Miles Davis, Roy Ayers and Gill Scott Heron are among the artists who made their heads and influence their productions to date.

The artists of today.

Despite being a much smaller number and have a smaller market also with respect to the heavier styles of Drum & Bass artists continue their 'mission' to make people listen to 'music for the soul'. The main ones are: LTJ Bukem, Nookie, Japanese Makoto, Blame, Big Bud who recently left the Good Looking, ASC, Pariah, Sheba, Rantoul, Pete Rann, J-Laze, Cedar, Nu-Moon, which is MC Conrad LTJ Bukem from the beginning and now trail the path of producing Drum & Bass.

In Brazil.

In Brazil, the style is still seen as something a bit unusual, but people already have the opinion a little more flexible than the time of its creation, as many here said it was Jungle 'motel'. So far only three are known DJs specialized in playing the Atmospheric Drum & Bass in the country: Kax DJs and DJ Linkage of Brasilia and Sao Paulo DB Alex, who also produces music focusing on this style.

There have always been numerous labels, extremely well organized, who pledged to promote and produce a side 'dark' of Drum & Bass, but this has not happened with the Atmosphere. If we try to market something like the atmosphere, or even a night devoted to style, we see our options reduced at parties and seals. Of course we can not forget about labels such as 'Creative Source', 'Good Looking Records' and its subsidiaries, which invest heavily in the dissemination of the style.

From time to time appear new projects, but without a sufficient force to design a sound that is constantly evolving, creating new breaks each day, trying to maintain a spirit closer to their roots and also keep the origins of Drum & Bass and its crucial elements.
